Abba Stars UK filled the live music slot in October, and filled the venue at the sell-out all-ticket event.
The last Saturday of each month usually features live music from local bands and are free to attend for both members and non-members. The latest event was anticipated to have a large turnout and so a limited number of tickets were made available to help cover the costs and to ensure the capacity was not exceeded. Tribute bands are all the rage and with Abba being one of the biggest and most popular across all age groups, it was no surprise that Abba Stars played to a capacity crowd.
With thousands of songs available at the press of a button, the hardest part of the job for a DJ nowadays is selecting the right songs for the occasion. The 80’s arguably produced the best new music of any decade, still widely covered by contemporary artists today when short of new ideas.
Tony’s Discotheque provided the equipment and expertise, and kept the hits (officially golden oldie’s now) flowing right to the end, accompanied by lighting effects irresistible to those of us who only need a couple of drinks to show off the dance moves we used to regret the morning after.
For anyone who married in the 80’s it is an ideal theme for an anniversary, and so this event was a fitting backdrop for Martin and Maureen Court’s 34th Wedding Anniversary party.
We are certain there are many other members who married in the 80’s, so we look forward to more boogie nights in the near future. With so many great tunes and an iPad based karaoke catalogue at their disposal, no two nights will ever be the same!

Sunday 11th November – Very Special Centenary Commemoration Remembrance Day – Open day to celebrate 100 years since the end of WW1, and featuring a display from Spelthorne Museum, period music and a finger buffet following the annual parade and service to be held at the memorial in Market Square.
The club will be open to the public before, during and after the service, and will be serving hot beverages and refreshments until 6 pm. There is plenty of seating and a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all those attending this special occasion.

As colder conditions and icy winds descended on Staines, club staff and members were busy making preparations for a “first” in the club’s history; a party to commemorate the 100th birthday of long standing member Jim Hart, in the knowledge that the weather was never going to delay the arrival of a hardy Newcastle-born ex-military man.
The club laid on a buffet of sandwiches, rolls, marinated chicken skewers, spring rolls and dips, along with a commemorative cake. A helium balloon and specially printed drape formed the backdrop for photo opportunities to commemorate the occasion.

Live music from soloist Bryan Just got everyone including Jim on their feet throughout the evening, with iconic songs covering many of the eras Jim has been privileged to be a part of, whilst we were all very privileged to be in his company for such a special event.

Jim had his birthday officially recognised by the Queen with a traditional telegram in its modern form. He is looking forward to the next one which will be on his 105th birthday.

If your company is based in or around Staines, you might struggle to find a suitable venue for the annual Christmas party due to the dwindling number of possibilities in the area, especially for larger groups.
Staines And District Conservative Club offers favourable terms to local businesses, including free hire of the room space, competitive drink prices and flexible catering options.
The bar area can be divided into two, with one end made available for guest hire; including sound system, dance floor, and access to the outdoor patio and river views.

Sunday afternoon at the Staines And District Conservative Club was host to the best entertainment in town, overshaddowing the neglected neighbouring old Town Hall which was once a top music venue.
Club Secretary Howard Holt was on duty to ensure everyone got a good grilling, with quality beef and pork joints expertly carved and served to the queues of eager members and their guests.
Live music was provided by professional Frank Sinatra tribute act So Sinatra, performed by Paul Holgate who has honed his craft in recent years to become widely regarded as the best in the business.

Not just a great singer with a delivery that is a worthy tribute to the great man himself, but a polished performer who stays in character throughout with added humour and Rat-Pack-era references to keep those with more than a passing appreciation happy. The encore was almost a third set by the time Mr Sinatra was allowed to bring down the final curtain on a memorable afternoon.

Live music at the Staines and District Conservative Club is a regular feature on the last Saturday of the month, and on 28th July the entertainment was provided by local duo Classic Tracks.
If you were expecting classical tracks then you were in the wrong place as the band rocked the night away with covers chosen from a broad repertoire spanning more than three decades.

Love it or loathe it, you can’ t ignore it: England’s recent World Cup run has been another positive distraction bringing the country together, with only opinions on team selection, line-ups, formations and substitutions divided. Okay, so there was plenty to argue about, but it was all done in the best possible taste and humour.
The southern end of the bar, temporarily renamed the Southgate bar, was suitably adorned with flags and the all-important World Cup Chart. With the mediterranean weather we have been experiencing it was easy to imagine you were watching the matches in one of Lineker’s bars rather than the Staines Riviera.
The result in the end left the fans over-the-moon and at the end of the day it was a game of two halfs, hundreds of pints and plenty of crisps.

Egging On England!
A charity event hosted by Staines And District Conservative Club on 26th May this year raised £700.00 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Club member Danny O’Leary organised the beard and head shaving event, which he had been planning for some time judging by the length of hair being offered up for the cause.

The event was well attended and the amount raised included contributions from club members and Danny’s friends and colleagues, with the final amount collected being topped up by the club to round off an astonishing £700.00 total.
